Janeto,

Google Has Done It Again

Well, Google has gone and done what I always wanted to do, build a Web-based office system. This document was created in their latest beta project, Writely. See: writely.com.

Everything you see here, with it's fonts, styles, justification, and even spell-checking, was created in my browser with an instant AJAX interface.
It has all the necessary formatting buttons, plus instant undo and redo button. What's best is, you can copy, paste, and highlight with your own mouse, then click their on-screen buttons to affect your highlighted text. This baffles me. It allows you to use your keyboard and mouse to edit text in the same way you always have. You don't even realize you're working in your browser. I'm thoroughly impressed.

Somehow, they also hijacked my contextual menu. And this auto-save indicator flashes every-so-often.

Next, they'll have spreadsheets, if they don't already.

Yours,
Billy-bob
